Meeting Minutes
The September 1, 2007 meeting
was called to order by VP Jim Orn at 5:56 p.m. at the ABATE Rally in Litchfield,
Minnesota.
President: Dale Steinborn
Vice President: Jim Orn
Treasurer: Tammy Winkels
Secretary: Rebecca Martinson
Chapter Rep: Wendy Steinborn
Sgt. at Arms: Al Salisbury and Rich Winkels
Guests were Val, Dave Herzog, Lee Seiler, Mike and Vonnie from Straight River,
Andy, Carol (and several others whose names I couldn’t read, including a guest
from Buffalo Ridge – thank you for coming) and there were 45 members in addition
to officers named above.
SECRETARY’S REPORT was read by Rebecca Martinson. Correction was made to the
August 1 minutes in that Joe Martin was not in attendance and that we would not
participate in the Hutchinson fair (not Litchfield); motion made to accept the
report as corrected, passed by hand vote.
COMMITTEE REPORTS
Chapter Products by Tammy. Tammy brought the new long sleeved t-shirts to
distribute. Reminder that there were many products at the rally.
Gambling by Jim. There will be 3 Harleys and 2 Victorys at ABATE U and 1000
tickets sold. New members of the gambling committee are Dale and Wendy.
Ways & Means by Al. Next meeting September 30 at the Ugly Bar in Montrose. Still
looking for new members.
Membership and Retention by Jim. Nothing to report.
State Rally by Dale and Jim. Again, not much to report; no specific numbers but
ahead of last year.
Dial-a-Ride by several people. The trailer is at the rally.
Joe Matter Scholarship Safety Riders Course. Al has someone who has taken the
course but is underage to get into the rally. He will be at the October meeting.
There are several others interested in taking the course.
Buddy Bears. There was a discussion as to whether to ride as a group on Sunday
to deliver the bears to Hutch Life; it was decided there was too much else
planned.
PGR Riders by Galen. He’s been out of the loop. PGR had a booth at the rally,
stop and visit them. Patti talked about overhearing comments at a wedding about
the “awesome” welcome by PGR for the local military coming in from Camp McCoy.
There were reportedly 1000 riders.
STATE REP REPORT by Wendy. Meeting on September 15 in Slayton.
VICE PRESIDENT’S REPORT by Jim. The only thing of interest he had to report was
that the Jaegermeister and Bud girls had arrived!
OLD BUSINESS: Raffle tickets were still being sold until the drawing at 10:15;
lots of sales at Darwin and the Meeker County Fair; special thanks to Wingnut
and Mel for sales. The memorial ride went very well; someone got “busted,” but
the ABATE lawyers were going to take care of it. Kudos to Straight River for
taking up the slack at the Rally. Reminder that there were still open shifts if
someone was looking to fill some time. Swans, a local business, gave all their
receipts for one day to the rally; they want us to continue in Litchfield.
Another reminder to come up with ideas for ABATE U classes. Discussion about
road ditch cleanup on September 30 and whether it would need it or whether it
would even be accessible due to the construction in the area.
NEW BUSINESS: A request that we nominate businesses of the month and bikes of
the month for the Road Noise. Still looking for volunteers for various
positions. Thanks to Dale and Wendy, Rock and Ann, and lots of others for their
work before and during the rally.
OPEN DISCUSSION: Dale especially wanted to thank the road guards for the
memorial ride. Phil and Susan are moving – there will be cake after the meeting.
A reminder of the September 15 auction.
Motion made by Christy to adjourn the meeting, seconded by Joe, passed by hand
vote. The meeting was adjourned at 6:44 p.m.
