Meeting Minutes
The February 6, 2008 meeting was called to
order by president Dale Steinborn at 7:00 p.m. at the Bonfire Grill in
Hutchinson, Minnesota.

Our guests were Stephanie and Mark, and there were 21 members in addition to
officers named above.
SECRETARY’S REPORT was read by Rebecca Martinson. Motion to accept the report
made by Clarence and seconded by Charlie, passed by hand vote.
COMMITTEE REPORTS
Chapter Products by Tammy. There was a discussion about the Buddy Bears – how
many were still available and where, and whether we needed to order more. We
also talked about ordering new t-shirts.
Gambling by Jim. Meeting at Rose City, home of the Freedom riders; on February
9; March 15 meeting is at Orns. Sell tickets, sell tickets, sell tickets.
Ways & Means by Al. Meeting at the Ugly Bar in Montrose March 30; Jim and Kristy
Orn were voted in as members.
Membership and Retention by Dale. We need to bring new members in.
State Rally by Dale. We are not going to move the bike show to downtown. There
are concerns about bikes being ridden by those who have been indulging. Dan has
volunteered to do the bike run; are we going to have a parade? Reminder about
the ticket prices increasing.
Dial-a-Ride by Dale. Dale and others took the DaR trailer to the bike show
downtown. There are lots of people out there, even in the biking world, who
don’t know about ABATE or about Dial a Ride. There was a discussion about
publicity for ABATE and previous publicity efforts and ideas for future
informative publicity. Dial a Ride needs a new president.
Joe Matter Scholarship Safety Riders Course by Dale. No activity. $475 in the
fund.
Food Shelf: Mona reported 275 lbs of food plus cash; Artie will be taking care
of the donations this month.
Buddy Bears by Charlie. Clarence needs 3 dozen for the Dassel Fire department;
Cosmos needs a dozen, Charlie needs for Hutch, Glencoe and Silver Lake. There is
an April 1 deadline.
PGR Riders by Galen. Dale and Dan attended a welcome home.
STATE REP REPORT by Wendy. A reminder about Biker Day at the capitol and the
buses available. Todd Riba wanted to remind us about the federal helmet laws.
WRITE, WRITE, WRITE to your legislators. Regarding ABATE U: we need auction
items; bring t-shirts; a lunch buffet; gun training Saturday and Sunday, with an
advanced course Sunday; 1700 Buddy Bears; raffle tickets. Becky retired; hiring
a secretary and treasurer for Publications; Kristy has been appointed to the
proofreading committee; need nominations for bike and business of the month for
the Road Noise; register for Biker Day; we need web help; we need ideas for the
20th year commemorial pin for the Rally, submit your designs; Products needs
help; approach local drinking establishments regarding DaR; we need to designate
a chapter member for DaR; 5 of 20 members on the Metro Safety Council are now
ABATE members.
VICE PRESIDENT’S REPORT by Jim. Attend Biker Day!
OLD BUSINESS by Dale. Last chance to get rooms for ABATE U. There will be a bus
to Biker Day from Glencoe and St. Augusta.
NEW BUSINESS by Dale: Dale brought up the possibility of moving meetings to the
first Saturday of the month and a lively discussion was had. We tabled the
discussion for the March meeting when more people will be there for elections.
Officer Nominations: President – after reconsidering, Jim Orn accepted a
nomination; Dale declined; Vice President – Pork Chop will accept, on a
contingent basis; Treasurer – Tammy W; Secretary – Becca; Chapter Rep – Wendy;
Sergeants at arms – Dan S., Al and Rich W all accepted
OPEN DISCUSSION: Dan S wants to send thank yous to the newspapers and radio
stations that publicized the food drive. He also brought up a poker run or some
similar fundraiser this spring, but this discussion was tabled.
Motion made by Clarence to adjourn the meeting, seconded by Charlie, passed by
hand vote. The meeting was adjourned at 7:58 p.m.
